Cops: Man Tried to Cash Forged Check in Hastings

Police charged a New Jersey man with felony attempted Grand Larceny following the attempt.

A 20-year-old New Jersey man faces forged instrument and attempted grand larceny charges in Hastings-on-Hudson after a bank employee told police on October 8 that he attempted to cash a forged check.

Police received a call from a Citibank employee at 2:56 p.m. reporting the man, Matthew Adebambo Bonema, tried to cash a $4,239.55 check.

Police responded to the Main Street bank and arrested Bonema at the scene.

He was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Third Degree.

The bank alerted the check's owner about the incident.

Bonema was processed and arraigned following his arrest and was taken to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or bond.
