Hastings Police Beat: Symbolic Bagels? Alleged Key-Stealing Car-Flipper Charged

A look at Hastings police activity over the last week.

July 23:

  • A caller on Jordan road reported that bagels were thrown onto her car sometime overnight. She suggested that it might be an anti-Semetic act. "We have no reason to believe that's the case at this time, but it is still being investigated," said Lt. David Dosin.
  • Three leaf-blower complaints were called in: two on Farragut Ave and one on Main Street.

July 25:

  • After a two-week investigation by Hastings detectives, officers arrested Bryan Fuentes, 20, of Ridge Street for allegedly taking another resident's car keys, . According to police records, a 59-year-old resident came to police headquarters on July 5 saying that his son had given the keys of his 2006 Cadillac to a friend after going out for dinner because the son felt too inebriated to drive. The car was later found flipped on its passenger's side on Warburton Avenue after hitting another parked vehicle. The driver was not on the scene. Officers believe Fuentes fled the scene after the accident. Fuentes was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident. Fuentes was arraigned and released to appear in village court.
  • A member of the Pioneer Boar Club reported three men in a club-owned rowboat, using club-owned oars and fishing rods and wearing club-owned life jackets. Police investigated, subsequently charging the three Yonkers men—aged 18, 19 and 20—with criminal trespassing and possession of stolen property. The men were released on $100 bail to return to court.
