Police Chase Over TZ Bridge Ends in Upper Nyack Crash

A high speed police chase that began in Westchester and crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge ended when the suspect collided head-on with a New York State Trooper's vehicle in Upper Nyack around noon Monday.

The suspect and two New York State Troopers were taken to Nyack Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

According to State Police, the pursuit began because the driver of the suspect vehicle was speeding. He eventually made his way over the bridge, through Nyack and up Broadway into Upper Nyack. Upon finding himself facing a dead end, the driver turned and slammed into the state police vehicle head on. New York State Police Sgt. Bill Collins, who was driving the state police car, was injured in the crash as his airbag deployed.

The suspect then ran away, but was caught down the hill from the crash site. He resisted arrest and that was when another state trooper was identified. The suspect has not been identified, but according to state police, narcotics were found in the suspect's vehicle.
