Police: Hastings Man Punched Teen, Damaged Car

Police say a 21-year-old village resident chased another local man before damaging his car and punching him.

Police received a 911 call at 11:35 p.m. August 9 from a Hastings resident who said a man had just kicked in the window and door of his vehicle while they were on River Street.

Officers responded to the street, where the caller—an 18-year-old—told police he had been with his friends when the 21-year-old arrived and chased him.

The caller told police he ran into his vehicle, at which point the man chasing him kicked his car's door and shattered the front passenger side window.

Police said the man also caused damage to the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze's rear passenger side door, truck, rear fender and broke the passenger side mirror.

The 18-year-old said when he got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, the man punched him on the left side of his face, causing a small bruise and cut.

The assailant had fled the scene by the time police arrived. The victim told police he knew the man and a warrant was issued.

The 21-year-old, a village resident, surrendered himself to police the following day with his parents and attorney present.

He was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree. Police said additional charges may be filed.
