Police: Man Kicked in Hastings Jail Cell Doorframe

Police said they believed the defendant was under the influence of alcohol.

A Yonkers man is being charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a class E felony, after he repeatedly kicked in the doorframe of a Hastings-on-Hudson police jail cell, police said.

Wayne Woods, 48, was initially arrested for harassment in the second degree and disorderly conduct—both violations—on Saturday, Nov. 23, after a 27-year old Hastings-on-Hudson man reported a disturbance at his Ridge St. apartment. Woods proceeded to punch the man in the face after having “beef” with him, police said, however it is believed the two did not know each other before the incident.

After being placed in a Hastings-on-Hudson police headquarters jail cell, Woods used toilet paper to cover up the cell’s camera and window. He then repeatedly kicked in the cell’s doorframe, causing damage to "governmental, village-owned property." This incident led to the criminal mischief in the third degree charge, police said.

A judge came to have Woods arraigned, however, the defendant “refused to corporate.” Police said they believed the defendant was under the influence of alcohol.

Woods was remanded to Westchester County jail without bail. He will remain there until a court appearance on Wednesday, Dec. 4, police said.
