Stick-Up at Madaba Deli, Masked Men Fire Shot

This report was derived from information from Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police are searching for two men that robbed a clerk at gunpoint early Thursday morning at Madaba Deli, 582 Warburton Ave. in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Police said they received a call at 3:33 a.m. from the clerk advising them that two males, who were dressed in black and had covered faces, made off with an unknown amount of cash. One of the males kept his eye on the clerk, while the other stole from the cash register and a box with lottery receipts.

One of the suspects allegedly had a black automatic handgun and fired it as the pair fled. A shell casing was found on the floor near the front door of the deli. No one was injured.

The suspects escaped in a small white vehicle heading northbound on Route 9 (Broadway). The Westchester County Police Crime Scene Unit assisted the Hastings-on-Hudson's detectives with processing the crime scene. Surrounding police departments have been advised of the incident.

Police ask that anyone with any information of the crime make a confidential call to (914) 478-2344.

It's really sad to hear this. Hastings is really going downhill. The cops should really hang around Madaba more often in the late hours. Poor Fareed, he's such a nice man to have to deal with that incident.

That's twice you've claimed to know better than the police on this website in the last two days, Cynthia. Please tell us why your thoughts on how to conduct a police investigation should matter to anyone. Something tells me you've never been "around Madaba in the late hours," because I'm there pretty regularly and so are the police. It feels like you WANT to believe that the HPD is full of lazy incompetents. That's simply not true, and it's not fair to claim it so casually.

I am out a lot too and all I ever see them patrol are stop signs. I also don't remember hearing about arrests, only crimes. Don't be so sensitive. Police need to be thick skined and open to comments. I don't know better than anyone....but can eo tell me where I can look up states of arrests vs breakins in each town.

We have two police cars that patrol at night. One is used to parent the children who aren't being parented at home, while the other is used to patrol and answer calls. When will we stop pointing at our police department and stop blaming them for the goings on in town. Our children drink in parks that are closed at 9pm. They walk from parties and lay down in the middle of the streets or riffle threw cars. They vandalize port-a-potties. They destroy property. How about we start to parent our children a little better so our children stop committing crimes that take away from crimes that our police force should be focusing on!!!
