Teens Accused of Stealing from Spa Apprehended After Chase

Police nabbed the three in Hastings after they allegedly fled a Dobbs Ferry spa without paying for a massage.

A Cedar Street spa employee told police she was struck twice by a 19-year-old would-be customer with a piece of PVC pipe as he and two others attempted to flee the store at about 5:17 p.m. Sunday.

The employee told police three males—the others ages 15 and 16—entered the shop that evening and one received a massage and all three attempted to leave without paying.

The 15-year-old was also reportedly caught with his hand in the woman's purse. The woman told police she was able to grab the purse before he was able to stealing anything out of it.

At the scene, the employee showed police officers video surveillance of the incidents, allowing them to gather and broadcast descriptions of the three males.

Hastings, Irvington and Westchester County Police aided Dobbs Ferry in setting up a perimeter in search of the suspects and later received a tip that they were seen on Palisade Street, heading toward the Metro North station.

Police were able to intercept a southbound train stopping at the Hastings station, where the three suspects—all residents New York, NY—were found to be on board.

The 19-year-old suspect was arrested on board the train and charged with Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Petit Larceny, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree.

The criminal mischief charge, police said, stems from holes he allegedly put into the spa's walls while he was swinging the pipe at the employee. It is estimated that he caused more than $250 in damage.

Police said 19-year-old suspect was jailed following his arrest.

The 16-year-old male reportedly fled the train on foot and was chased down by police. He was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny.

After he was processed at police headquarters, he was released on his own recognizance.

The 15-year-old juvenile was later arrested on the train and charged with Petit Larceny and Attempted Petit Larceny for attempting to steal from the purse. He was taken to police headquarters and later released to his father with an August 1 Yonkers Family Court appearance ticket.

All are charged with Petit Larceny as they allegedly "acted in concert" to steal the massage services.
