Two Arrested in Scaramella's Restaurant Burglary

Westchester officers recognized one of the suspects in the Sept. 23 Dobbs Ferry burglary from surveillance footage.

A traffic stop led to the arrest of two burglary suspects on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle Thursday.

Westchester County Police Sgt. Brian Hess and Officer Steven Stromberg reported being on patrol at about 11:30 p.m. when they stopped a Mitsubishi Diamante for an alleged traffic violation, according to a statement.

The two said they believed the passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Bronx resident Lawrence Lettera, resembled a man from the surveillance footage of the September 23 burglary at Scaramella's Ristorante in Dobbs Ferry.

"The suspect’s photo was included in an informational bulletin distributed to law enforcement by the Dobbs Ferry Police Department following the Sept. 23 burglary at Scaramella’s restaurant on Southfield Avenue," according to the statement. "The bulletin also contained an image of a Mitsubishi Diamante used by the burglars to flee the scene. "

Hess and Stromberg reported questioning the two men and eventually took them into custody.

They also recovered "what appeared to be burglar's tools in the trunk of the car."

Lettera and driver Mickey Serrano, a 43-year-old Brooklyn resident, were charged each with:

  • Burglary in the Third Degree
  • Possession of Burglar's Tools
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Petit Larceny
Dobbs Ferry Police initially reported the restaurant break-in involved the shattering of a patio door. Inside the restaurant, a cash drawer with about $550 was taken, according to police.

Serrano and Lettera were arraigned Sunday by Dobbs Ferry Justice Steven P. Grant and held without bail at Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.

They are due back in village court Thursday.

Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions.
