That's how many calls reporting incidents of domestic violence Dobbs Ferry Police received in 2010.
According to figures from the Westchester County Office for Women, some municipalities received upward of 100 domestic violence reports that year—including 393 in Yorktown, 115 in Sleepy Hollow, 149 in Mount Pleasant and 98 in Hastings-on-Hudson
Pleasantville-based non-profit organization Hope's Door is applauding the re-authorization of the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), according to a press release.
"VAWA, which was first passed in 1994, expired October 2011 for the first time in 17 years," according to the release.
CarlLa Horton, executive director of Hope's Door said in the statement, "The House of Representatives must stand up for the safety of women and children and expand efforts to stop domestic violence and the intergenerational cycle of abuse."
The act was passed by the Senate this week, where Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D — NY) was among the 78-22 majority who voted in favor of th eact.
"There is simply no room for partisan gamesmanship when we're talking about the safety of our families," she stated.
Hope's Door reported it has "served 765 victims of abuse in 2012.
"Of the women served, 45% had been strangled by their abusive partners and 43% reported that their partners had threatened to kill them," the statement said. "There were 944 children in the families Hope’s Door served last year."
