Night Closures on Bronx River Parkway on Tap

Expect closures on the parkway from the Sprain in Yonkers to White Plains.

From Westchester County:

Motorists are advised that there will be night closures on the Bronx River Parkway starting Thursday.  The night time closures will occur in the northbound and southbound directions from the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers to the Westchester County Center (Exit 22) in White Plains starting on Thursday night, Sept. 26 and continuing on Friday night, Sept. 27, Saturday night, Sept. 28 and Monday night Sept. 30.

On Thursday night September 26, the following parkway ramp and local street closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the above  limits:

  • Southbound Fenimore Road entrance ramp to the southbound Bronx River Parkway will be closed.
  • Southbound exit ramp to Crane Road (Exit 12) will be closed.
  • Westbound Crane Road, from Chase Road to East Parkway will be closed.
  • Southbound East Parkway from Crane Road to Christie Place will be closed.
  • During these hours there will also be intermittent full stoppages of traffic on the southbound Bronx River Parkway and the northbound parkway entrance ramp at Crane Road for approximately 5-10 minutes while heavy equipment is moved.
  • There may be a full closure of both direction of the Bronx River Parkway between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.southbound at Greenacres Avenue (Exit 16) and northbound at Harney Road (Exit 10). 

On Friday and Saturday nights September 27 and 28, the following northbound and southbound parkway closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. for the above limits:

Northbound parkway closures on September 27 and 28 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.:

  • There will be no access from the six lane portion of the northbound Bronx River Parkway to the four lane portion of the northbound Bronx River Parkway at the Sprain Brook Parkway. All Traffic will be diverted onto the Sprain Brook Parkway and then Central Park Avenue (NY 100) to White Plains.
  • Northbound parkway will be accessible to local traffic at the following locations (between the Sprain Brook Parkway and Harney Road) at all times from entrances at Paxton Ave, Elm Street, Scarsdale Road, Thompson Street and Leewood Drive which will be open.
  • All northbound parkway traffic will be diverted at Harney Road to Scarsdale Avenue and East Parkway, re-entering the northbound parkway at Crane Road.
  • The northbound parkway will be open to traffic at Crane Road and all points north.

Southbound parkway closures on September 27 and 28 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.:

  • There will be no access to the southbound parkway south of the County Center in White Plains. All Traffic will be detoured onto Central Avenue south to the Sprain Brook Parkway.
  • Entrances to the southbound parkway at Main Street & Fenimore Road will be closed.
  • The southbound parkway will be open at Ardsley Road and all points south.

Local streets and ramp closures on September 27 and 28 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.:

  • Westbound Crane Road from Chase Road to East Parkway will be closed.
  • Southbound East Parkway from Crane Road to Christie Place will be closed.
  • During these hours there will also be intermittent full stoppages of traffic on the northbound parkway entrance ramp at Crane Road for approximately 10-15 minutes while the beams are moved.

For next week, on Monday night September 30, the following parkway ramp and local street closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the above limits:

  • Southbound Fenimore Road entrance ramp to the southbound Bronx River Parkway will be closed.

These night closures are in addition to the previously announced ongoing midday parkway closures where access is limited to northbound Bronx River Parkway from the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers to the Westchester County Center (Exit 22) in White Plains weekdays starting Monday, September 23 to Friday, September 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

These closures are necessary to continue forming and pouring concrete for the west abutment as part of the Crane Road Bridge Replacement Project on the Bronx River Parkway. 

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. Numerous variable message signs are being used to alert motorists of the upcoming closures. The project began in the summer of 2012 and will take three years to complete.
