Report: Hastings Man Pleads to Voluntary Manslaughter

Pennsylvania Police say Robert Jufer used a shotgun to kill his wife in her sleep.

A 72-year-old local man faces up to 22 years in Pennsylvania state prison after he allegedly shot and killed his wife, according to a report in The Times-Tribune.

The Wayne County, PA, district attorney reported Robert Jufer pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, as well as tampering evidence.

Robert Jufer, of Hastings-on-Hudson, was in possession of a number of handguns that were turned in to local authorities earlier this year following his arrest.

He was initially arrested by state police in February "on allegations he shot his 68-year-old wife, June Jufer, in the head with a shotgun while she slept in their White Mills Road home on Oct. 17, 2010," Joseph Kohut's article reads.

Robert Jufer, according to the report, called 911 after the shooting and initially told police he was assaulted upon returning home from a trip to Walmart and denied involvement in his wife's shooting.

Jufer was first charged with criminal homicide, but took the voluntary manslaughter plea to avoid a jury trial, The Times-Tribune reported.

He will be sentenced in January.
