Want to Help Revive Irvington's Fireworks?

Join the Fundraising/ Special Events planning group.

This season Irvington opted to cancel its July 4 fireworks display because—in such a tight economy—trustees believed collecting funds for it would be an undue burden on taxpayers.

But on Monday, Mayor Brian Smith said he had met informally with recreation department head Joe Archino to coordinate forming a "Fundraising/Special Events" committee who would spearhead fundraising efforts for traditions like fireworks and parades.

They have tentatively planned their first meeting for Tuesday, July 12.
