Lowey on Supreme Court Upholding Affordable Care Act

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) today issued the following statement on the Supreme Court upholding the Affordable Care Act

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) today issued the following statement on the Supreme Court upholding the Affordable Care Act:

“I am pleased the Supreme Court today upheld the Affordable Care Act, protecting access to health insurance and quality of coverage for millions of Americans.  This decision protects the coverage of  17 million children with pre-existing conditions, 6.6 million young adults on their parents’ plans, and 86 million seniors and families receiving free preventive care.  I will continue to work with my colleagues to improve the law and make health care more affordable for New Yorkers.”

Rep. Lowey, very interesting comment. Can you be more specific on how you will work with your colleagues to "improve" the law? Since you state it needs improvements, where do you think the current legislation is lacking? Finally, you indicate the law will provide access to healthcare, but how do you ensure access when Congress has already authorized significant payment cuts to providers. Further, the increased access will come disproportionately through expanded state Medicaid programs which already are overburdened and in significant financial distress. How will the states be able to handle the increase in covered lives.
wendy June 28, 2012 at 07:07 pm
Ms. Lowey, repeatedly you have shown yourself to be but a bag of hot air. The law can't be improved, it's flawed beyond belief. Ms. Lowey, I am going to do everything in my power to see that clowns like you are bounced from congress.

Hey Wen... I've seen you and YOU yourself can really BOUNCE with that body. How 'bout a Slim Jim?
nancy June 29, 2012 at 01:03 pm
Time to vote this woman out...she has been representing our area for way to long and we need new ideas. Make sure you are REGISTERED to vote!
Michael Gries June 29, 2012 at 01:57 pm
Wendy? Wendy Long? Is that you? Lowey & Gillibrand must both go. Vote Wendy Long for the Senate in November
Mike Hirsch June 29, 2012 at 10:25 pm
You got that right Nancy. This year there is a good candidate that can actually beat Lowey. Joe Carvin, the Rye Town Supervisor, was elected in a Democratic town. He is not a politician, but rather a businessman. He has reduced government there by 25% and cut taxes each year in the three years he's been in charge. He will be a breath of fresh air in Congress. He is a Republican who voted for Obama, just like I did. Time to vote for the person, not the party.
Cadeyrn June 29, 2012 at 10:39 pm
Lowey ... been mailin' it in forever.
Mike June 29, 2012 at 11:35 pm
So Rep Lowey obviously sends out this talking point to a local new site and doesn't even monitor it. Ou think by now, she might have a cogent reply, but then again she is a member of Congress and cogent thoughts are a rarity there.

It is time for this fool to be bounced, she's a waste.
jeff meyer June 30, 2012 at 02:30 am
First of all Congresswoman Lowey is hardly a fool. She has served in Congress for about 25 years with merit and distinction. Secondly, how do you consider her a waste? Compared to who; you? What have you accomplished r33 to make such a proclamation. I am sure you would be lucky to get a job to carry her briefcase. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY
Walt June 30, 2012 at 02:49 am
With merit and distinction? How so? She is a career politician, who consistently remains in lock step with the democratic agenda and whose only concern is being re-elected.
BunkyILikeThisHorse June 30, 2012 at 02:51 am
Mr.Meyer, Ms. Lowey is a career politician, it's not a question of quantity but of quality. Rather than asking what a nameless person's"accomplishments" are posting on this site, why not enlighten us all as to what "distinctions" and "merits" mark Ms. Lowey's 25 year ride. We can no longer afford those like Ms. Lowey. Her record ensures that she is without the courage to address what faces us, first and foremost the restructuring of pensions which will bankrupt community after community unless something is done. Lowey provides much verbiage and very little else. Not only wouldn't I personally have any interest in carrying her briefcase - I seriously doubt she has one, and if she does, it's but a prop.

Could I also suggest that we need to bounce out of office the Clarkstown politicians who accept the Conservative Party line.  In this article
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/26/janis-castaldi-new-york-senate-same-sex-marriage_n_1627435.html?utm_hp_ref=politics it is reported that Janis Castaldi, NY State Senate Candidate, may lose Conservative Party backing because she is gay and married to her partner.  Rockland County Conservative Party Chairwoman Mary Loeffler said she did not know Castaldi’s marital status before she backed her.   “She’s married to a woman? Oh boy,” Loeffler said. “That puts a little crimp in it right now.” Oh boy, is this the same Mary Loeffler who apparently got caught cashing a patronage paycheck from Clarkstown while living in Florida?  The Town was forced to "put a little crimp in her income back then".  Her co-chair, Ed Lettre, reportedly another patronage appointee in Gromack's government, has a son who, while employed by the Town, had to resign after being caught in an act of thievery. http://newcity.patch.com/articles/clarkstown-town-worker-charged-in-burglary-resigns Since this party's leadership is apparently living in glass houses they should not throw stones at honest taxpaying gay citizens. Supervisor Gromack accepts this party's endorsement.  Am I to assume that he too shares this discriminatory view of some of Clarkstown's citizens?

Congresswoman Nita Lowey is no fool but for anybody to think she has served in Congress with distinction is one. She was the Queens neighbor of Mario Cuomo when he was made New York State Secretary of State. He hired her as an aide in his office. When he became Governor she became Assistant Secretary of State. She then ran for Congress and won because the incumbent was involved in a campaign finance scandal.. Her husband is a wealthy WALL STREET LAWYER who provided the connections and cash.Plus if you look at the ethnic make up of the district she is a perfect fit. So to evaluate her political career, only a brain dead left winger would say she has served with distinction. She is smart, lucky and has a wealthy husband. If anybody is carrying anything it is the water for her to think she is exceptional.

Mark Levin, YouTube 10 minute video - MUST SEE!!! LISTEN to the Constitutional analysis of the Roberts' decision - soooo important to understand what just happened. Levin is a former US Attorney and legal eagle. Forget about whether regulating insurance and what it covers is good or bad - it's the Constitution which has been injured and the 3 branch system of government checks and balances that has been wounded. BAD PRECEDENT!!!!!

Mark Levin on Hannity - ok: get past the "right wing" stuff and obvious bias and LISTEN to the Constitutional stuff - amazing analysis on Taxing Power, Commerce Clause, roles of Court, Cheif Justice how this goes, what the Constitution IS and how it goes - LISTEN to the side of "god" or the "devil" and take away the guts/analysis. This type of scholarship makes America great.

It is fine if one chooses to not to vote for Rep. Lowey. If you find her politics to be repulsive then fine. However, she certainly is not a "fool" and a "waste" as posted on this site. She has been a strong voice for the rights of workers, the poor and the elderly (Medicare and Social Security). The fact that she has been reelected approximately a dozen times without a sweat means she must be doing something right in the eyes of her constituents. NO? JM Tuckahoe, NY

Mike,
Good questions but don't expect an answer; she's clueless.
nancy June 30, 2012 at 01:47 pm
How many years has she NOT even had someone run against her? What really is so great about her that she landed this cushy job in the first place? Why does she feel she needs to continue it - rather than letting someone else have the honor and benefit of serving their country? Can you name one thing she has done that has impacted our country? There are NEW REPS since 2010 that have done more than her....sorry....time for her to go.
Mike Hirsch June 30, 2012 at 02:43 pm
I don't think so Jeff. Look at Charlie Rangel who was recently censured by the House for his improprieties. He just won his primary race and will be re=elected. Most people who bother to vote at all are happily uninformed and simply vote the party line. The only reason Lowey is in danger this time is because her district got changed because so many people are leaving NYS for less hostile business and taxing environments. She also has a great challenger in Joe Carvin, who will draw alot of Democratic votes and probably 90% of tjhe Independent vote..
Mike June 30, 2012 at 03:15 pm
Not necessarily. The power of incumbency on both sides of the aisle is so enormous and difficult for any challenger to overcome. Again, politics to the side, it is perplexing that opinion polls show support for Congress in general to be in like the 20% range, yet incumbents get re-elected at rates over 80%. The name recognition, the campaign cash, and the pandering to special interests all play a role. I mean look no further than Charlie Rangle- censored by Congress, cheating on his taxes, yet he is re-elected. I believe the biggest reason for the high re-election rates is the gerrymandering of districts. Both parties do it. It rigs the process for the party in charge and it's why I believe nothing gets done. Lowey needs to pander to her constituents to get reelected (the same can be said of Rep too). If you think about the Nov election, it really will come down to about 4-5 states and 25-30 Congressional districts. This to me is a sad way for a democracy to work. The resolution as I see it is a gerrymandering system based on geographical shifts, not politics, and term limits.

I find it interesting and hypocritical that the admirers and defenders of Congresswoman Nita Lowey are also the same people who vilify wealthy and successful people. We have a lioness of the left in bed (literally) with a Wall Street lawyer who happens to embody all that is evil in society (Occupy Wall St. adjective). Money that comes from these evil doers goes directly into her campaign. Hypocrites come in all shapes and sizes especially the ones who constantly berate someones screen name.
Mike Hirsch July 1, 2012 at 02:28 pm
Mike, the problem is twofold: (1) The citizens are generally happily uninformed and don't bother to vote, and (2) Our political system has been taken over by the professional politicians who work for themselves.
