Four Hastings Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

The four Hastings students are among an elite group of less than the top 1 percent of PSAT high scorers.

From Hastings High School:

On September 11, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of the National Merit Semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. From Hastings High School they are Julia Dailey, Jesse Litvin, David Heyman and Matthew Hopkins.

These Hastings High School seniors scored in the top, less than 1%, of students taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 2012. About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the competition for the 2014 honors.

“We are extremely proud of these students’ performance and efforts and wish them well on their quest to become Finalists,” said Louis Adipietro, principal of Hastings High School.

The four seniors will now go on to be considered for the Finalist level in February. To become a Finalist, the Semifinalists and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application providing information about the Semifinalists’ academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
