New York State Class B Champion Irvington's Lady Bulldogs beat Section 5 CHSAA champ Cardinal O'Hara by a score of 74-57 in the Federation Tournament of Champions.
This victory propels Irvington into the Class B championship game Saturday, March 24th at 10:30 in the Times Union Center. They will face Long Island Lutheran, the AISAA winner who had an easy win over The Scholars Academy.
The Lady Bulldog's Big 3, Marley Giddins, Lexi Martins, and Brittni Lai combined for 65 points in the victory. Martins had 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Lai had 21 points, shooting 13-16 from the foul line, with 7 assists and 9 steals. Senior Marley Giddins shot 7-10 from the field and 6-8 from the line to score 20 points.
Irvington was unable to run the floor like they normally do in the first half due to the strong physical play of O'Hara. The Bulldogs took a 30-26 half-time lead into the locker room.
Brittni Lai sparked the team in the second half with her speed and quickness causing turnovers, making plays, and stealing the ball. O'Hara faced foul trouble which kept sending Irvington to the line where they shot an astounding 40 for 53.
Irvington is looking to avenge last year's bitter loss to Long Island Lutheran. They are looking to cap off their dominance in Class B by adding another Federation title to their 3peat of NYS PSAL Championships.
