The Parent-Teacher-Student Associations of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Irvington and Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow announce the creation of “Rivertown Parents”, a group partnering with Mercy College to offer parent education and family support to students and parents in the Rivertowns.
"As parents strive to meet the many demands faced by families today, they often need support for themselves and their children. Rivertown Parents will bring together the parent-teacher-student associations of the Rivertowns to provide quality lectures, seminars, webinars, book clubs and other educational resources to everyone raising and educating children in the Rivertowns," said Deb Hargraves, Co-Chair Rivertown Parents.
The mission of Rivertown Parents is to promote and foster communication in the Rivertowns among parents, children and their schools and provide educational resources to the community at large.
- building a stronger Rivertown community among neighboring school districts
- educating parents, teachers and administrators in the area of parenting and child-rearing
- strengthening bonds among parents, students and the Rivertown schools through enrichment and educational programs
Rivertown Parents believes that a joint effort between the parent-teacher-student associations of the Rivertowns and administrators and teachers of each school district will enhance communication and build a strong dialogue around the topic of parenting.
Rivertown Parents will partner and share resources with Mercy College, and with their help will bring speakers, experts and research together to assist parents and their children in parenting and communicating more effectively. Rivertown Parents is dedicated to providing guidance, knowledge and support to parents, children and educators in the Rivertown school communities.
"The vibrant faculty of the School of Education recognizes the key importance of parents in the ‘education equation’ and is enthusiastically looking forward to supporting our neighbor school-district parents," said Dr. Alfred Posamentier, Dean of the School of Education, Mercy College.
The kick-off event for Rivertown Parents will take place on Wednesday, October 17th at 7pm in the Rotunda at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry.
