College Roundup—Dec. 17-29

Dick Miller compiles news and information about Rivertowns kids playing sports in college.

 

At Stevenson of Maryland on the 29th, the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore lost to their hosts, 90-79, with Kevin Dahill of the visitors tying a teammate for 2nd high for the five with 4-5 from the field, in addition to having 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 block in the game, with the record now 6-3.

 

 In a two day basketball tourney at Daytona Beach on the 28th and 29th, the Amherst girls' basketball squad played Simpson on the 28th, maintaining their undefeated winning streak, as they edged the Iowa five, 62-60, while on the 29th with Western New England, Marley Giddins scored the Lady Jeff's final 4 points in the final minute of play on her back- to- back layups, in the 69-45 win, to extend the win record to 10-0. She also had 5 rebounds and a block in her 7 minutes on the court.

 

 In a wrestling tournament at Northwestern, held In Evanston Illinois on the 29th , Penn Gottfried of the Columbia Lions defeated his first round opponent , freshman Matthew Keliher  of Wisconsin, and then was eliminated by senior grappler Trent Spreckler from the U. of North Dakota, in the 2nd round of the 133 pound division.

 

SIDEN - Mark Siden and the Gettysburg Bullets played in a basketball tournament at York, Pa. on the 28th and 29th, with the Hastings athlete hitting for a field goal in the win over Farmingdale on the 28th, while facing Grove City on the 29th, he had 1 assist in the 74-61 win, with the record now 5-6.
