Hastings 10U Baseball Leads Division

Hastings' 10U baseball team has holds a 4-1-1 record so far this season.

The following is from Hastings-on-Hudson Little League:

On Tuesday, June 25, Hastings battled New Castle at a sold out Uniontown Field and the game ended in a 6-6 tie. New Castle opened the scoring taking a 3-0 lead after 1 inning. However, Hastings battled back in the second inning and took a 4-3 lead. However, the Pesky dragons of New Castle failed to give up and took a 6-4 lead after four innings of play. Hastings chipped away and closed the gap to a 1 run deficit after 4 full innings. In the last inning, Hastings managed to tie the game on smart base running by Chris Rotiroti, sending the game into extra innings.

In the 7th New Castle and Hastings failed to score, sending the game into the 8th inning. Both teams failed to score in the 8th and due to darkness the game ended in a 6/6 tie.  

Hastings received superb pitching from Max Schapiro and Jude Jorger.

At the plate, Chris Rotiroti, Rex Jacobsen, and Dan Leedy all had timely hits to lead the offensive attack for Hastings.

The 10u season continued Saturday for Hastings who faced Pelham in a Westchester Baseball Association division match up. The game ended with a 8-0 victory for Pelham, but there were many bright spots for Hastings.

Kevin Dosin, Tyler Ossen and Dan Leddy all pitched well, but were the victims of several errors committed by the Hastings defense.

"Baseball is a strange game where some days just aren’t your day and Saturday was not ours," said Dosin. 

On Sunday, the 10u team traveled to Hillcrest to face the Lakers in a doubleheader. The 10u team prevailed winning both games 5-1 and 5-4 to improve to 4-1-1 overall; and after one third of the season completed, the Hastings 10u team is in first  place in the Westchester Baseball Association 10u Willie Mays western division.

"We were shorthanded today and the boys battled hard and it paid off." said Dosin.

In the first game Hunter Mitchell and Chris Capuano pitched their hearts out leading Hastings to victory. On the offense,  Hastings received timely hitting from Max Schiparo and Chris Rotiroti. 

In the second game, Schiparo, Rotiroti and Jake Magaro led Hastings to victory.

"These boys battled the heat and never gave up," said Dosin.

Additionally, the offense was led by Jake Magaro, who went 2 for3 with a single and a double; and Chris Rotiroti, who went 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a double.

The season continues next week with a game against Tuckahoe.
