Mercy College Athletes Earn Conference Accolades

Among the honorees are men's soccer standouts Christian Diaz and Gabriel Luna.

With the fall season in full swing, Mercy College athletes have been earning a number of accolades.

The Dobbs Ferry college reports:

Women's Soccer
Mercy College Women's Soccer junior Jessica Carrillo (San Diego, Calif. /Hilltop) has been named to the East Coast Conference Honor Roll for Week 2. Carrillo helped the Mavericks improve to 4-0 to start the season. She scored two goals in Mercy's second half rally against Bloomfield College that earned the Mavericks a 4-1 victory on Tuesday, and had a team-high four shots taken in the 1-0 overtime win at Saint Anselm on Friday. Carrillo is tied for second in the ECC in goals with three, and is tied for third in total points with seven. She currently leads the Mavericks in both statistical categories.


Men's Soccer
Mercy College men's soccer sophomores Christian Diaz (Watsonville, Calif.) and Gabriel Luna (Watsonville, Calif.) have been named the East Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Week 2, respectively.


Volleyball
Mercy College volleyball senior defensive specialist Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif.) has been named to the East Coast Conference Player of the Week Honor Roll for Week Two. Hopkins recorded a pair of incredible 26-dig performances over just six total sets for an average of 8.67 per set as the Mavericks split a pair of matches against Dominican (N.Y.) College, 3-0, and Southern Connecticut State University, 0-3. She added one kill on a .333 hitting percentage against Dominican while making two assists and serving up five aces over the pair of games. 


Field Hockey
Mercy College senior Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) currently ranks second in saves per game in the latest NCAA field hockey statistical rankings. Znaniecki has started in all of the first four games this season. She has made 47 saves, and has a .746 save percentage in 280 minutes of work in the cage for the Mavericks. Znaniecki finished 12th in save percentage as well.
