Your Weekend: Pool Regatta; Ben Sollee

Check out some events happening around the region over the coming weekend.

Here are some ways to get out and enjoy the Rivertowns and beyond over the next few days:

Chemka Pool Regatta

Where/When: Chemka Pool (Hillside Avenue at Valley Place) on Sunday, July 21 — pool opens at 9:30 a.m. for boat construction
Why go: Last year, participants of all ages took part in the first-ever Chemka Pool Regatta and this year the competition is back. One and two-person teams can stop by the pool starting at 9:30 a.m. to begin building boats using only corrugated cardboard and duct tape/masking tape. Boat check-in begins at 1 p.m. and the races start at 3 p.m. Awards for most creative, best team spirit, crowd favorite will be handed out after the races.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Where/WhenIrvington Public Library on Friday, July 19 at 3:30 p.m.
Why go: Boys and girls ages three and up are invited to drop off a stuffed animal friend for a sleepover at the library. Participants can head back to the library at 11 a.m. on Saturday to enjoy donuts and a slideshow of the night's adventures.

Greenburgh 225th Anniversary Celebration

Where/When: Anthony F. Veteran Park (11 Olympic Ln. Ardsley) on Saturday, July 20, beginning at 10 a.m.
Why go: The Town of Greenburgh is celebrating its 225th birthday Saturday (rain date Sunday) with a slew of happenings in Ardsley. Events include a tennis carnival (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Senior Bridge Party (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), inflatable water slides from 3 to 7 p.m., live music and a grand finale of fireworks, beginning at 9 p.m.
Pricing: Free; $5 pool admission

Ramadan Dinner

Where/When: Our Lady of Shkodra (361 W Hartsdale Ave., Hartsdale) on Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m.
Why go: This intercultural event hosted by the Turkish Cultural Center of Westchester aims to promote "peace and harmony" amongst the three Abrahamic religions. Stop by to sample some cuisine and enjoy live music and dancing by whirling dervishes.

Ben Sollee Concert

Where/WhenThe Purple Crayon on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m.
Why go: Musician, songwriter and composer Ben Sollee will be on-hand in Hastings Friday evening to share his array of classical, bluegrass, folk and R&B pieces. Purchase tickets in advance here.

Hastings HS Alumni Pool Party

Where/When: Chemka Pool on Saturday, July 20 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Why go: All are invited to this summer gathering. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hastings Youth Council. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. In the event of rain, the event will move to the James Harmon Community Center.
Pricing: $10


Car Maintenance for Teens

Where/When: Greenburgh Public Library (300 Tarrytown Rd. Elmsford) on Saturday, July 20 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Why go: John from Hillside Auto will be on-hand to teach new drivers the basics of car maintenance—from changing tires to checking fluid levels and more. Call 721-8224 or email greenteen@greenburghlibrary.org to register in advance.
