An Introduction to EcoChoices

Hello!  My name is Sydney Frankel and I am a senior at Ardsley High School. I am ending the school year with an internship with Rivertowns Patch.  I am an environmentalist who is interested in studying Environmental Studies. 

This blog will examine choices that you would normally encounter in everyday life and will analyze which choice has less of a negative impact on the environment.  The inspiration for this blog came from a trip to Panera Bread.  When I ordered a cookie I was asked if I wanted a bag or a plate.  I knew their bags were paper and that I would have to throw it out because of food residue, so I opted for a plate.  Once I got the cookie I realized two things: the plate was twice the size of the cookie and was reusable.  This meant it would have to be washed using water and soap.  I was unsure as to whether the plate really was the better option.

I will strive to examine similar issues where the answer isn't always obvious.  Hopefully this blog will help you to be more conscious of your daily impact on the environment.
