What Makes the London Olympics Different?

My thoughts on the food, Olympic park, and the overall appeal of the games.

I have been in London now for 2 weeks. Now I have to say, London is a cool city, but there are a lot of things we do better in the states. For instance, food.

When you order eggs, no matter how much you tell them to cook the eggs, they will come out raw. They put these raw, runny eggs, along with grilled tomatoes, on almost everything. I'll bet there are some people in the states that like this, although every American that I've talked to here does not. While I don't really enjoy traditional English nosh, the Olympic Commitee has made world cuisine accessible to people in the Olympic areas.

Another thing that bothers me is how London did the Olympics. The venues are aesthetically stunning, but the functionality of them as stadiums is sometimes questionable.

While at the swimming venue, I noticed what they were trying to get at with the seating arangement—high bleachers that ascend from the long sides of the pool—but I still like Beijing's swimming venue much better. Also, I do not really like the Olympic park. At Beijing, I loved it. It was very quick and easy to navigate around, as there were only 3 stadiums. Here, they have a gigantic Olympic park, with 10 stadiums, where it can take 30 minutes to get from the entrance to a stadium.

While there are definitely some aspects of the games that I think could have been improved, the atmosphere and competition have been exceptional.

I agree, Alan! Terrence, this one cracked me up. The runny eggs thing I didn't know. Would love to see some pics of Olympic park or pins or village. Looking forward to your next post!

I have noticed the funny bleachers in the swim venue. I was wondering if maybe it was built in such a way that the top part of them are designed to come down after the games to avoid a huge empty space for "every day life."
