Abinanti Joins Environmentalists in Spotlighting New York's Dirtiest Polluters

“Climate change is here. We ignore it at our own peril,” said Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-92nd AD) today at the unveiling of a report by Environment New York Research & Policy Center which shows that several power plants in New York are among the biggest contributors to global warming pollution.

Environment New York’s report evidences how pollution from power plants significantly contributes to global warming and can play a role in the formation of superstorms like Sandy. The report suggests various strategies such as setting limits on carbon dioxide pollution from new power plants to diminish the likelihood of future storms. The report’s eye-opening information comes as the one year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy nears.

“We need action now on alternative clean energy sources to minimize New York’s contribution to carbon pollution in the United States,” said Assemblyman Abinanti. “With a little effort we can have both a sustainable environment and a sustainable economy.”
