The First Annual Children's Village Triathlon

Children and staff participate in a day of racing on The Children's Village campus.

On August 2nd, 2012 The Children's Village hosted its first annual mini-triathlon. More than 60 children and staff alike participated in both individual and relay races across the entire campus, cheered on by more than 40 volunteers, many from the Rivertowns. Participants and volunteers enjoyed the food healthy snacks prepared by the boys in CV’s culinary program, including yummy black bean brownies.

For some, it was more than just a day of fun. One boy had just spent 21 days in CV's Crisis Residence Center, before he was moved to a regular cottage. Despite the fact that he was new to CV, he ran as part of a three-man relay team in the triathlon, his proud mother watching from the sidelines.

Thanks to the help of generous sponsors and volunteers, it was a enjoyable time for everyone, and just the first of many to come. As Community Advisory Board member David Schwartz said: "There were lots of smiles and thumbs up as I cheered for boys cycling by."
