Girl Scouts from the Hudson Valley send cookies to women and men serving in the armed forces overseas.

In 2002 Ardsley Girl Scouts organized "Operation Cookie Drop," an event that collected Girl Scout cookies from village residents to send to men and women serving in the armed forces overseas. Approximately 3,000 boxes of cookies were collected that year.

Now in it's 11th year, more than 800 Girl Scouts from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess and Ulster counties descended on the Westchester County Police Academy in Valhalla, dropping off thousands of boxes of donated cookies.

Assisted by members of the U.S. Navy, the more than 50,000 boxes of cookies will be transported to Kuwait and then distributed throughout Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other areas where members of the armed forces are currently serving.

Tarrytown troops were proud to report they doubled their cookie donations this year from last. Brownie Troop 2255 were among the largest donors in town with over eight cases or more than 100 boxes of cookies.

Well done!
