Junior League Open House on Tuesday; Ronald McDonald House Hosts Murder Mystery Dinner Benefit Friday

TODAY: Today is the celebration of when Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, which was on Oct. 12, 1492. Public schools and government buildings, including the post office, are closed.

TODAY: The Rivertown Center for Yoga & Health, located inside the South Presbyterian Church at 343 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry, is hosting its Sound & Singing Circle. The event, which is  an opportunity to sing and be sung to with simple, spiritual, takes place at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Participants are asked to contribute donations in lieu of a set fee.

TUESDAY: County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced today that the Westchester County Department of Health will offer free flu shots to residents ages 9 and up on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Westchester Community College in the science building ground floor student lounge on the Valhalla campus. Residents can register in advance for the flu clinic at www.health.ny.gov/Go2Clinic, but walk-ins are welcome, so if the appointments fill up, don’t worry.

TUESDAY: The Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson's Open House invites prospective new members to its open house, scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday. There will be social time from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm. This is informational only - no pressure to join that night.

WEDNESDAY:  The Westchester Jewish Community Services, located at 845 N. Broadway in White Plains, is hosting its “Women-Helping-Women Free Time Management: Boot Camp for Job Seekers Workshop” Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. This workshop will examine apply time management principles to the job search in today’s world, where change is the norm. In this environment, developing strategies for getting everything done, while maintaining balance and quality of life, is more important than ever. This interactive murder mystery benefit dinner will ask attendees to help crack a crime based on a real unsolved case from the 1870s. The event is from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and costs $95 per person. The event includes appetizers, dinner, dessert, beer, wine, soda, coffee, tea and entertainment.
