Upstream Gallery Reception
Where/When: Upstream Gallery on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. (the show continues through September 8)Why go: Dobbs Ferry's Upstream Gallery is introducing the work of its newest members Thursday evening with a reception. If you miss tonight's showcase, don't worry—the work will be on display and viewable during the gallery's regular 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. weekend hours. Get the details here.

Hastings-on-Hudson Farmers Market
Where/When: Hastings Municipal Building parking lot on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.Why go: Stock up on locally-grown produce, prepared foods and more at the weekly village outdoor market. This week, Ruby Reilly will provide live entertainment in the lot.

14th Annual Heritage of India Festival
Where/When: Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Why go: The festival will feature the delicious foods of India, live music, folk dancing and cultural performances. There will also be a fashion show showcasing colorful native clothing. Festival-goers can create their own cultural fashion by decorating themselves with Mehndi, the henna bridal make-up that dates back to ancient India. Visitors can also browse a merchandise bazaar where a variety of vendors will be selling Indian clothing, jewelry, CDs, DVDs and delicious Indian cuisine. Traditional Rangoli art and other craft exhibitions will be on display as well.
2014 Miss Westchester & Miss Hudson Valley Pageants
Where/When: White Plains Performing Arts Center (11 City Pl. White Plains) on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m.
Why go: Young women ages 14-26 from Westchester County and the Hudson Valley Region will compete for the chance to become Miss Westchester, Miss Westchester Teen, Miss Hudson Valley and Miss Hudson Valley Teen. Contestants will compete in the categories of Swimsuit, Evening Gown, Judges Interview and On-Stage Question. The winners will go on to represent Westchester and Hudson Valley at the Miss New York USA and Miss New York Teen USA competitions at Purchase College Performing Arts Center in January. Purchase tickets in advance here.

Fiddler on the Roof
Where/When: Westlake High School (825 Westlake Dr., Thornwood) on Friday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.
Why go: A number of locals will be taking part in the Mount Pleasant Community Theater production of Fiddler on the Roof this weekend and next. Purchase tickets in advance here.
Pricing: $20 adults; $15 seniors/students
