How the times have changed. When I covered IBM for McGraw-Hill many, many years ago, we were aware…Read More that IBM people wore only white shirts with ties to work, showed up without fail on weekends at IBM's recreational facilities, never ordered alcoholic beverages through room service when traveling, and NEVER, NEVER were fired no matter what. If IBM didn't like your job performance, you simply didn't get a raise. Some IBM employees went 10 years or more without an increase in pay.

The story seems incomplete without mentioning that the courthouse was Standing Room Only for the…Read More Continuum session with more than 50 residents there to voice their opposition. At one point, a "show of hands" was requested by the Planning Board for those residents opposing the project - all 50+ hands went up. Those supporting - not a single hand was raised.
Among those who got up to speak in opposition were some of the most respected longtime residents of the Village, including former Mayor Nikki Coddington, former board of education member Robyne Camp and numerous others.
Yes, the Continuum project has been reduced by a few beds, though at 115,000 square feet it remains larger than the original 105,000 sf proposal, which had been rejected by the Planning Board as "too large". It remains three times the size of the Main Street School and visually will be for Irvington what the new Walgreen's is for Dobbs Ferry.
