You know as much as the NYS Troopers can be pricks, you've got to give them some credit. When theyRead More set up speed traps they get OUT of their cars with radar guns and actually point it at cars, then have a chase car down the road. Unlike most PD's, when they hand you that ticket you have to appreciate the effort that went into it.
Scott Peterson April 18, 2014 at 11:29 pm
In my experiences, the State Police I've encountered in my travels across the country have alwaysRead More displayed a level of courtesy and professionalism I've often found wanting in smaller organizations. I've never encountered a prick as I define the term though were I to include the term to mean one who seemingly allows no exceptions, I could see the term as valid.
knee jerk April 19, 2014 at 09:07 am
Well put definition Scott, seemingly describing Maryland State Troopers to a tee.

They took out "several other rifles"??? Yeah. Every home needs several rifles. This was aRead More disaster waiting to happen.
Kristen Woll April 16, 2014 at 11:56 am
Such a sad story. Makes me mad too. The NRA would say that people shoot people, but if they don'tRead More have guns. My condolences to the familes. And I would like to think that anyone planning to vote for an opponent of gun control, remember this tragedy before going to the polls.
Sally Savage April 10, 2014 at 05:39 pm
AND...my objection to our Police is that they leave their car motors running - polluting for ages -Read More WAY past the County three minute limit (which no-one seems to know about anyway). Does it really take so long to start up the motor for a chase, ticket, etc.? Rockalnd law is 3-minute idle limit - ice, snow, cold, or heat
willie 6 April 14, 2014 at 08:35 am
WE THE PEOPLE pay for the gas. observed a police car in front of PIERMONT VILLAGE HALL running andRead More came back the other way a half hour later and the POLICE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WHAT A WASTE !
Ryan Murray April 15, 2014 at 08:52 pm
I think it's great! Should be a priority everywhere, not just the highways. Might make someRead More enemies here, though that's not my intent. A thought though; how do police give tickets for using mobile devices when they themselves use them while driving without hands-free devices?
J. Cattano April 4, 2014 at 10:00 pm
The Police investigating the police. Hmmm. Clearly this was not going to go well. The officer willRead More have to live with his truth while the world lives w/o that beautiful young woman. My heart breaks for the Rebello's.
Truth Hurts April 7, 2014 at 09:06 pm
Exactly J.Cattano. My question for that District Attorney and the NCPD would be....what if thatRead More was your daughter? Horrible smh.
joshua tanner April 9, 2014 at 07:22 am
I have a friend who was a Navy Seal. He said most people would be surprised how poorly many copsRead More perform with their weapons. They really don't go to the range and practice enough, to be able to pull a weapon out under stress and make a clean shotwhere accuracy is critical.
ron walsh April 1, 2014 at 09:04 am
If the Board asked for a investigation and the findings are what is in the above statements why isRead More this member Young still in the membership and how does the Village of Tarrytown allow him to respond to taxpayers homes . He needs to be removed reading the above report before history repeats itself. VERY DISTURBING
ron walsh April 1, 2014 at 09:07 am
I also suggest that [the defendant] not be reinstated, as he appears to be unable to control hisRead More behavior despite repeated reprimands.
ron walsh April 1, 2014 at 09:08 am
How is he still a member and whats the liability ?

What is a "vulnerable adult"?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) March 31, 2014 at 06:55 pm
The Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert Program is activated when a vulnerable adult (at least 18 yearsRead More old or older) with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism or other cognitive disorder, brain injury or mental disability is reported missing and is at credible risk of harm. http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/missing/aware/missing-vulnerable-adult.html

at least now with all the victims getting clothes, Karl (with a K) the registered sex offender willRead More be well dressed when lurking around playgrounds
grmahigold March 26, 2014 at 09:25 am
a quick search shows Karl isnt the only sex offender displaced. Glad they r beachfront at the WhiteRead More Sands now !!!!

I'm sorry, but it sounds a little bit like racial profiling . This type of action does not takeRead More place on other ethnic holidays . Think about it.
R Rice March 6, 2014 at 07:05 am
Looks like another civil rights violation, force fed into law by executive action, instead ofRead More legislative debate "for the public's safety." Sounds a lot like the justification for NSA spying that no one seems too concerned about, anymore...
DG March 6, 2014 at 02:02 pm
if cops are going to have our personal digital life history at their fingertips, we should also haveRead More access to their personnel files, including complaints like, false arrests, departmental disciplinary actions and proceedings, psychological profiles, and driving and arrest histories. After all, no information is sacred anymore.
bill of rights March 8, 2014 at 11:17 am
have you driven a highway recently? everyone is speeding. cuomo is the worst governor. please voteRead More for the new guy in november.
Bob Zahm February 28, 2014 at 01:49 pm
@Lanning - in which town / city / village did this take place? There are lots of Central avenues inRead More Westchester County and without a place name, it's tough to assess the relevance of this article to "my" patch.
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) February 28, 2014 at 02:47 pm
Thanks, RyeBob, for the headsup. For clarity I added "through Hartsdale" to this sentence:Read More Traffic through Hartsdale was shut down from Central Avenue to Hartsdale Village after the 2:30 p.m. explosion. And as for relevance, I think when more than 1000 people lose power because of a manhole explosion in lower Westchester that it's news all over lower Westchester. That's my opinion, anyway!

OK Paula. Good point in response to my post of March 1. So, I place the following addition to myRead More comment: "Oh poor Kerry. Poor, poor Kerry. Because she has more money than the common transgressor, her name got into the paper. Good, and double good for her. Paula: chill out, before you make yourself sick. This transmission is both "Over" and "Out".

Ask yourselves if this was you and a jury of your peers acquitted you , how and what would you beRead More posting now ? She had a great Attorney and a creative / unusual Defense which the Jury agreed with so case closed . As to names being printed in the Papers , I think everyone's name should be printed as they are potentially a danger to Society . Embarrassement can be a great motivator . Years ago the Media did print names and I was humiliated being one .

Kennedy's have a knack for beating the laws Now death is another story.
Carolyn Adams February 28, 2014 at 07:12 am
Maybe this will affect you when someone breaks into your home and steals your valuables in order toRead More buy drugs. When something is labeled an epidemic it means that it impacts society as a whole not just the individuals who 'choose' to do drugs. I certainly don't have the answers and didn't participate in the Town Hall, but if all it did was educate people about the issue, then it's a start. At least we're not burying our heads in the sand.
Carolyn Adams February 28, 2014 at 07:24 am
And I'll be real curious to see what Hollywood's reaction is to this problem vis a vis the Oscars.Read More Having lost 2 of their own to heroin overdoses in the past year, I would love to see them be proactive in taking a stand on this topic. But I doubt they will.
jo February 28, 2014 at 07:25 am
education about the "evils" of drugs has been around forever.. if folks don't get it byRead More now, I have no hope they ever will.. take the drugs ..suffer the consequences ..

Is it possible to rape a call girl ?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) February 28, 2014 at 08:52 am
Read the DA's description of the second attack and you'll see: When the victim told the defendantRead More that she would not have sex with him without a condom, the defendant attacked her, punching her in the head and then pressing a knife to her neck telling her that he would kill her if did not comply with what he wanted. A struggle ensued and the defendant choked her leaving serious bruise marks to the side of her neck. The defendant then threatened the victim with a handgun and sexually assaulted her.

Not generally a supporter but both are very small tablets and could easily be confused - has anyoneRead More ever picked up the wrong bottle for moisturizer - or wrong tube when looking for toothpaste during their morning routine. Ambien is an amnesiac, you have no idea what you are doing if you get out of bed after having taken it.
Guarags30 February 27, 2014 at 08:02 am
That didnt take long... She already is playing the Kennedy card. I guess they just feel they can doRead More whatever it is they want. Like cheat on your wife (most of the Kennedy men), or kill people in car accidents and drive away (Teddy) or the numerous other things they get away with. Anyway wasn't her pills in different containers? That's like me bringing a can of beer to work and saying "oh sorry I thought it was a pepsi"
Ross Revira February 23, 2014 at 08:55 am
Very misleading headline. No detective lied under oath in court. They lied to the murderers whileRead More being interrogated after they were Mirandized. I hope the people who applaud this decision are never victims of crime.
JJ February 23, 2014 at 09:27 am
Yep, the Police have to play by the Marquess of Queensberry rules ; however criminals can lie allRead More day long. "That's not my gun"..."that's not my dope"...."I didn't kill that man". They didn't violate this guy's rights. They stretched the truth just like he was doing.
Bob Zahm February 24, 2014 at 11:36 am
And this article is related to Rye how? Lanning I suspect that you and the other (remaining) PatchRead More editors are under tremendous pressure to get content on the Patch sites, but please try to either keep them directly relevant to Rye or make clear in the title the town/city/village to which the article relates.

The basketball coach in Cortlandt got 25 years to life for his sickening acts, why was this piece ofRead More trash issued such a shorter sentence?
P February 22, 2014 at 10:28 am
One word answers all your questions pertaining to why this horrible human only received a 5 yearRead More sentence and it simply comes down to MONEY. I'm sure this asshole had a private practice, made out pretty well and had a 6 figure lawyer on retainer just in case he ran into trouble. For all you outraged, please don't fear, this guy will have an extremely unpleasant 5 years of being passed around and flip flopped.
Joshua Levin, Debra Osborne and Charles Hall were arrested on the Thruway Feb. 16, 2014 with more than 695 packets of heroin.

Lanning - you remind me so of Truman Capote. In visage only.
PatchRat February 20, 2014 at 06:21 pm
Good job Marty!!! We need to get ALL of this junk off the streets. While we are proud ofRead More the police for any drug bust - especially heroin - we must remember that this new, deadly heroin epidemic is collectively due to the strategic inability of police departments to think two moves ahead of the users and dealers. The police did such a good job getting pain pills and oxycodone off the street that everyone turned to heroin, which is less expensive and more readily available (and more destructive and deadly).
