Dobbs Ferry High School is a public school serving grades 9-12 in Dobbs Ferry. The principal is Mr. Keith K. Yi. InMore 1998,  Dobbs Ferry High School became the first high school in Westchester to belong to the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB)  Organization, offering rigorous two-year pre-college training in a varety of courses for eleventh and twelfth grade students. Dobbs Ferry teachers and administrators have chosen the IB curriculum because they believe it challenges students to take a more active role in their own educations and fosters critical reasoning.  </p> <p>The school serves more than 400 students, 90% of whom will go on to further their education. The faculty is deeply involved in the development programs and encourages students to participate in activities that demand high levels of responsibility and commitment. Athletics have always been a particular point of emphasis in Dobbs Ferry, but in recent years the school's academic reputation has risen to be among the best in the county.  </p> <p>They offer a wide variety of elective courses, a culturally diverse population, support programs for students learning English, a homework center, a computer lab and fully operational TV studio. </p> <p>Students are encouraged to participate in extracurriculars, athletics and internships. The school is also active in facilitating community service opportunities and other connections to the Dobbs Ferry community.  </p>

The Dobbs Ferry Union Free School District is a public school district comprised of Springhurst Elementary School,More Dobbs Ferry Middle School and Dobbs Ferry High School.  District superintendent Debra Kaplan takes pride in overseeing a learning community that fosters close interaction between faculty and students and capitalizes on the resources afforded to a district located so close to New York City.  Their rigorous academic curriculum begins in elementary school (with programs like elementary foreign language and Singapore Math) and continues through high school with their International Baccalaureate program unique to Westchester schools.  </p> <p>Another element of Dobbs Ferry's mission is that all students can learn at high levels, and for this reason, students are never denied to opportunity to take an advanced class.</p> <p>"We encourage all students to take honors and IB classes and then provide them with the resources they need to succeed in them," Kaplan said.</p> <p>Other tenets of Dobbs Ferry's philosophy include: teaching a global understanding, developing writing skills and instructing in the use of technology.</p> <p>Dobbs Ferry has a comprehensive special education program for students with special needs, and provides on-going staff development training for teachers.</p> <p>Their overall goal is for students to attain the skills they need to succeed in college and beyond.  </p> <p> </p>

The Dobbs Ferry Police Department is housed on the first floor of the municipal building on Main St., and is made-upMore of 28 full-time officers, about half of whom are locals. The department is comprised of multiple divisions, including patrol, youth, detective, motorcycle patrol, boat patrol, and a certified child safety-seat technician. There are also two officers certified to teach DARE in public schools.</p> <p>The response time of this team is very short, usually dispatching an officer to an area of need within two minutes. There are generally four police cars on active duty at all times, within the 2.5 square mile radius of Dobbs Ferry. The Dobbs Ferry Police Department has 10 marked cars and several unmarked vehicles.  </p>
