Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.
Politics
- How would you describe your political beliefs?
I am a registered Democrat who spends too much time talking to people from different walks of life ever to see politics as black and white.
Religion
- How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?
I was raised both Jewish and Protestant, but my family always focused more on tradition than spirituality or ideology.
Local Hot Button Issues
- What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?
Education, taxes, the environment, unemployment, wildlife.

Editor Hedrick. I am appalled at Ms Sheryl Frishman's blog. I am certain it was not Patch's intention for blogs to be anything but altruistic in their nature. To provide ones personal opinions and life experiences and expertise in areas. Had it been to promote with links to a commercial entity I'm sure you would have instead had them take out an add. Ms Frishman's blog is nothing but a promotional tool for her law firm, with links to such, and I find this absolutely appalling. None of your other blogs are guilty of this, they are true to what a personal blog is supposed to be. I insist this be addressed at once and I will be contacting the corporate offices in Manhattan if it is not dealt with at once.

Elizabeth, Do you ever wonder how Hastings could spend time and money (which they don't have) and embark on drawing up a Comprehensive Plan for the village, amidst the times we live in? Historic times that will change the world as we know it, restructuring all in it's wake and rendering any and all of this ill timed forecasting, a complete waste of time and money. It seems hard to fathom that something like this could happen, until you look at the village's current government. Mayor Swiderski and his board make clear that they are in denial of, and insulated from, the historic changes before us. The village of Hastings hasn't the money nor the time to endure anymore of this insulated, entitled, ego laden "leadership" which continues to plague Hastings.

I am very, very curious about the following. Hastings has before it zoning issues regarding the size of a dental offices sign, yet mere yards away we hear not a peep about a multi, multi, multi, million dollar home, the size and scope of which Hastings has never seen. A home which will alter the landscape of Hastings forever. Is there any interest in understanding how this was allowed? The home, by itself, by the way, has doubled Hastings tax base. Why has this paper not reported this, as well as the manner in which Hastings village government has not said word one about this structure. I realize that journalism in this country leaves much to be desired but your site takes this to ridiculous levels.

How about an update on those 50 homes without power on Edgewood Ave. in Hastings? Is the power back? Has the tree been cut up? Is it being used for firewood? Let's follow up!
