Frances Greenberg, Neighbor

I've never had a blog before. I have strong opinions, of course, but I've wondered what interests my friends, neighbors, family as well as me? Now I'm moved to start blogging because of the possibility that the Nature Center at Lenoir will be closed. I'm a birder, so first and foremost, this blog will be about birds. About how we can save small patches of bird friendly environments in this huge agglomeration of urbanity, this greater New York City region.

The rich can create their own private societies; the rest of us must work together to create a decent society. That's what government is for, and that's what our taxes are for. As Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "Taxes are what we pay for civilization."
