[PHOTOS] Take Me to the River Festival 2012 in Hastings

Rising stars share spotlight with nationally acclaimed musicians in grassroots music and arts festival.

About a thousand people gathered in Hasting's Draper Park yesterday for the . The event, presented by 12 Milesnorth, had been rescheduled from Saturday due to rain. Still, most of the performers were able to return. 

"The artists were incredibly flexible, understanding and patient as we puzzled together a new day that still works for almost all of them," said Barbara Prisament, one of the organizers.

Spuyten Duyvil, Tony Trischka, Debo Band and Exit 12 were unable to reschedule.

Music ranged from folk, jazz and bluegrass to world music, rock, alternative and — in many instances — styles that cross boundaries and defy classification. 

The event also featured arts activities and installations, food from local eateries, and an expo of eco-friendly organizations and businesses.

Many of the bands and musicians had connections to the Rivertowns, including the Talia Billig Band, the Vibes, Animal Traffic, Parfamos, Caleb, Ruby Reilly, Primate House, James John Wilson, Hearts and Bones, Greetings from Anywhere, MonkeyWrench, Hope Machine, Carolann Solebello, Matt Turk, Scott Urgola, Nora Balaban of Timbila, South County and AJR.
