Fire Lit to Kill Bug, Laptop Missing

This report was derived from information from the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

  • An employee of the Graham School reported that a 14-year-old resident of the school lit a garbage can on fire in the Young Cottage on Jan. 12, requiring a local fire department to respond.  Police said that the student allegedly found a bug in his room, rolled it up in a piece of paper and lit it on fire to kill the bug. The student said that he believed the paper was unlit when he tossed it into the trashcan. School staff said that this isn’t the first time an incident like this allegedly occurred with the same student. 
  • A Hastings-on-Hudson couple reported on Jan. 12 that a laptop was missing from the wife’s Warburton Avenue business. She last saw the black Toshiba laptop at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 when she locked the office. The husband used a key to enter the office space at 8:05 a.m. on Jan. 11 and says he doesn’t remember if he locked the door or not.
