Mrs. Green’s Chosen For Rivertowns Square

The Rivertowns may be one of the newest locations for health food chain store Mrs. Green’s Natural Market. Developers Saber Real Estate Advisors announced Monday that the organic and natural market will move into the gourmet market space at Rivertowns Square, a multi-use development proposed for the former Akzo Nobel site off the Saw Mill River Parkway in Dobbs Ferry.

“We’re thrilled to have Mrs. Green's be yet another positive affirmation of the quality of the Rivertowns Square Development,” said Martin Berger, a managing member of the development firm. 

The developers of Rivertowns Square are proposing to build the following on the 17.7-acre 4-parcel site located in the middle of Lawrence Street and Ogden, Livingstone and Stanley avenues:

• 18,000 sq. ft. gourmet market
• a 123-room hotel (probably run by a division of Hilton hotels, yet to be determined)
• a 33,600 sq. ft. eight screen Sundance movie theatre
• 62,028 sq. ft. of retail/restaurant space
• 202-unit rental apartment (which includes 10 percent of affordable housing, per Village code)
• 1,228 parking spaces

Developers say Rivertowns Square will enhance the area and bring in needed amenities as well as cultural and economic benefits. However, some local residents, like the Rivertowns Preservation Civic Association and the Ardsley School District, opposed the project saying it is just too massive and will be a fiscal drain on the community, in addition to exacerbating traffic and flooding, reducing green space and changing the character of the neighboring residential community. Click here for all of our coverage on Rivertowns Square.

A brand new proto-type Mrs. Green’s store—which Berger described as “a first class and beautiful, like none other in the county”—will be built in Building B of the complex and will have a 20-year lease at Rivertowns Square.

The natural market currently has locations in Scarsdale, Mt. Kisco, Eastchester, Larchmont, Yorktown Heights, Katonah, Stamford, Fairfield, Mahopac and Briarcliff Manor. For more on Mrs. Greens’ parent company, Natural Markets Food Group, click on the PDF. 

In order to make a Rivertowns Mrs. Green’s a reality, developers must get approval for Rivertowns Square through environmental and site plan review. The Dobbs Ferry Village Board will offer the final vote on Rivertowns Square’s site plan application.
