In Photos: Winter Weatherizing Tips to Save You Money

Patch took a house tour with NeighborGreen founder Jean Hamerman to learn how residents can prepare their homes to better weather the upcoming winter.

Earlier this week, when I toured Hastings resident and Village Trustee Meg Walker's home, it was 60 degrees outside. Tonight, forecasts are calling for possible flurries.

Before Walker moved into her home this summer, she tasked fellow resident Jean Hamerman and her company with making her family's home more air-tight and energy-efficient in preparation for their first winter.

Walker kept the Con Edison bills from the previous owners and is excited to compare them to the (she hopes) considerably smaller ones she'll pay after the retrofit.

"In Meg's case, we were able to cut down on 30 percent of air flow," Hamerman said. "That should make a big difference."
