I very much apologize that it upset you. The quote was lifted from a speech and the photo was featured because I liked the shot...no other reason, no connection. Again I am sorry.

Are you kidding? That is your explanation? I suggest you take a look at it again. I saw the same thing this morning, don't have a son or daughter in the class and I was shocked. Either this is the height of carelessness, and forgive me, stupidity, or there was an obvious tongue and cheek agenda at work here. Disturbingly, there seems to be somewhat of a precedent for this reading your desire to inject comedy into police blotters. It is really hard to believe that an editor would write such a headline with such a picture, without any context or explanation. Even had this explanation of yours been included, it would still be an insult to Hastings as a whole and this graduating class.

Why must everything be put in a negative light? In the speech at graduation the young man said how he and his friends would tell people they were from North North Yonkers because no-one heard of Hastings. He talked about Hastings being an excepting place to live. He was correct in saying so. However if people keep looking for things to be wrong, and not working our town will lose the thing that us alumni and our children find the thing the liked best about our town!

I agree that the comment that Ms. Hedrick's attempt at humor in the police blotter does not belong there, and doing so degrades the Patch into Yahoo's OMG! style of reporting. While some readers might liken her style to Jon Stewart (really, REALLY?), other readers are just concerned of police activity in their towns and can do without the levity. Lanning Taliaferro's coverage of the blotter was welcomed reading. I still have hope for Ms. Hedrick. Having said that, I don't agree that Ms. Hedrick's title of this artice or the photograph held any hidden agenda. I thought the original title was fine. I am more concerned with the comments I read here that reek of elitism and racist snobbery. What's sad is that students, faculty and staff who come to this article to see celebratory pictures, also get a peek behind the facade of the some of parents of the kids who have graduated along side of them.

Lizzie Hedrick is to John Stewart, as Rodney King is to William Shakespeare.
